It is important to concentrate on creating a 500 word article which is relevant to the nature of your online business, and then at the end of your article it is important to include a resource box that displays a link back to your own site. When done, post your article to article distribution sites, and also email groups. To see traffic from this method, it is important that you repeat the process continuously.

3. Buying and Writing Ezine Ads.

This is the method which is not free. However, this paid method of advertising works efficiently, because it is the most specifically targeted method of all three. Start by writing a good ad for your business, and link to your auto responder or directly to your site. The next step is to contact Ezines to place your ad. If you do a search for “ezine directories,” you will find enough lists to keep you busy for a long time. Once contacted, look for rates for both classified ads and solo ads. Solo ads are usually more effective because they out in a separate email, but for this reason they are more expensive. So make sure that you choose the right ezines which relate to your business and do not advertise in an unrelated ezine. Once this is done, you will need to track your results to see which ezines bring you the most and best traffic in order to repeat the process with different ads.

These three methods of generating traffic will keep you busy for a while, and if you do things the right way and most important of all stay focused, you will definitely see the traffic you need.

To Niche or Not To Niche?

Unless you’ve been hibernating for the last couple of years, you’ve probably heard the term “Niche Marketing” a lot. It’s one of the current buzz-words in online marketing. Which is kind of funny really since niche marketing has actually been around pretty much as long as marketing has existed. But what is it?

I recently read somewhere that “All marketing is Niche Marketing”.

I don’t entirely agree with that - I’d say “ALMOST ALL marketing is Niche Marketing”.

Niche Marketing is marketing products or services to groups of people (or businesses) who have specific needs or interests in common.

Obviously department stores and their online cousins don’t fit that description, but almost everything else is …

you guessed it; “Niche Marketing”.

In the physical world, your local butcher, baker and candlestick maker (sorry, a LITTLE joke there - very little), greengrocer, shoe store, etc, etc. all cater to niche markets, some more focused than others.

And in the online world, any web site that focuses on a particular topic is a niche web site, and that describes the vast majority of web sites online today and in the past. So, those that are marketing any kind of product or service are probably already into “Niche Marketing”, and may not even know it.

Some niches are more crowded and competitive than others. The niches focusing on internet marketing and making money online are probably the most crowded and competitive online, and getting more so every day. So, it’s becoming harder and harder for people just entering that market to make any inroads, let alone a big impact.

But, don’t panic, there are lots of other niches that are far less crowded and competitive.

The current emphasis on “Niche Marketing” could probably be more accurately termed;

“marketing to niches other than the ‘making-money’ niche”.

Which opens up a lot of possibilities for people just starting out in online business.

Do you have a hobby or hobbies? Play a sport? What are your interests, are you passionate about or obsessed with a particular subject or activity? (keep it clean, folks)

If so, chances are there are other people who share the same interest and that’s a potential Niche Market! The same applies to any other hobbies and interests that you could name.

You need to do some research to determine if a particular niche or a related “sub-niche” is likely to be profitable.

For example, you’ll need to check out:

1. Demand - how many people are searching online for related info and/or products.

2. Competition - how many other websites or businesses are already catering to that market?

3. Are people actually spending money in this niche?

Now that’s all well and good, but …

How do you find out all that stuff?

So, as with most things I talk about, the next step is to take action, and do it now. Don’t worry about getting everything perfect straight away or first time out, just get started.

Need To Get Noticed? Do Something Crraazy!

Does your business need a boost? Do you feel like you’re just not getting the attention you deserve? Or, do you just want people to recognize your name?

No matter your reasons for wanting more exposure, doing something wacky in front of other people will always get the job done. People may think you’re funny, creative, desperate, or one brick short of a full load. But hey, no matter what people think of you, you’re sure to get some attention, and that’s where success begins.

Pulling a crazy stunt doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. How about renting a lobster or gorilla costume from your local costume shop, then standing on a busy street corner with a sign around your neck? Wave to passing cars, hand out flyers, or distribute free samples. At the very least, you’ll make an impression on the minds of several hundred people, arousing their curiosity about who you are and what makes you crazy enough to pull a stunt like that. Who knows… if you’re crazy enough, you just might end up on the local news.

If the local crowd doesn’t interest you, how about doing something outrageous online? Put together a web site of crazy video clips (like the ones people email to you all the time), jokes, and cartoons. Register the site with search engines and let fun-seekers check it out. In several prominent places on the site, place a link to your business. Your joke site may not have anything at all to do with your business, but if you’re looking for plain old-fashioned attention, that really doesn’t matter.

Contests can also work wonders for exposure. One local car dealership in my city staged a bad credit contest. They held a free barbecue and invited anyone with poor credit to come by and fill out an application. The contestant with the absolute worst credit of all was given a brand new car. People may have questioned their tactics, but hundreds of people showed up for the contest and free food. So, why not stage a live or online contest of your own? Reward the winner with a prize and plaster your label all over the t-shirts, entry forms, etc.

Above all, remember that if you can make people grin, wonder, shake their heads, or chuckle, they’ll remember you the next time they need a service like yours.
