The A-Z Of Increasing Your Online Marketing ROI Part I

Posted by Writing Service in Writing Service on 12 15th, 2009

A - Affiliate Marketing

Merchant products are promoted on 3rd party (affiliate) websites. When visitors click through from the affiliate site to the merchant site and make a purchase then an agreed fee is paid to the affiliate.

If you advertise your products online, affiliate marketing is an efficient way to generate additional business. It is a cost effective form of advertising for merchants, and a simple way for affiliates to earn revenue from their website.

B - Banner Advertising

Banner advertising generally has a low response rate, often yielding about 2 visitors per thousand banner impressions. Despite the relatively poor value of banners for driving traffic, banner advertising can be particular useful in certain circumstances such as raising brand awareness.

C - Categorise

Structuring your site well can be worth its weight in gold, not just to users of your site, but also to search engines. A well structured site in terms of infrastructure (i.e. directory structure, page naming convention) will not only tell your visitor what the page is about quickly, but also provide the search engines with an idea of what the page is about before it is indexed.

D - Differentiation

A unique Marketing Campaign that allows a company and/or its products and services to stand out from its competitors. Having a niche product or service makes the job of marketing your product or service much easier. If your service is not unique, it is often possible to identify a “unique selling point” of your product or service.

Focus on your unique selling points, those products or services that differentiate you from your competitors, and ensure you portray these to your potential customers.

There are many aspects that can make you similar to your competitors, so ensure your unique selling point is clear to your customers. This can make a significant difference between success and failure.

E &ndash E-Mail Marketing

Using e-mail as a means of communicating commercial messages to an audience (Direct Marketing) can be a profitable addition to your marketing strategy.

This could take many forms:

• Targeting your existing client base with additional services or products.

• Targeting your existing client base with the purpose of enhancing the relationship of a client with its current or old customers and to encourage customer loyalty and repeat business.

• Targeting your existing client base with the purpose of selling 3rd party products for a fee.

• Purchasing a list of client email addresses for the purpose of marketing your products to a new client audience.

• Adding your advertisements to e-mails sent by other companies to their client base and marketing your products to a new audience.

Direct marketing is popular with companies online as it is:

LOW COST : Compared to direct mailing or printed newsletters the costs are negligible. The advertiser does not need to pay for production, paper, printing or postage.

IMMEDIATE : It is instant, as opposed to a mailed advertisement, an e-mail arrives in a few seconds or minutes.

TRACKABLE : It is easy to track. An advertiser can track hits, conversions and rise in sales. Real-time.

FAR REACHING: Direct marketing can reach substantial numbers of e-mail subscribers who have opted-in (consented) to receive e-mail communications on subjects of interest to them.

F &ndash Focus

Keep it relevant!

There is no point spending hundreds or thousands of pounds on advertising on your site, and then sending a potential customer to a non-related “landing page”. There are two scenarios as regards online marketing where this is especially true, namely

• PPC advertising - Send your customers through to a targeted page. Many companies send clients through to the homepage, or worse, a non related page to what the term is. By sending potential customers through to a relevant page, you reduce the number of clicks required to find the product, at the same time reducing the number of exit points, which have the effect of making the money spent on sending the client to the site redundant.

• Affiliate Marketing - These days may clients are using companies such as Tradedoubler and Miva to drive traffic to their site. However, the number of times I have seen companies use the extra functionality such as product feeds that these Affiliate Marketing companies provide, and then under utilise them is staggering. By again targeting the users directly to the product/service they are searching for you are reducing the chances of the customer leaving the site before he/she has even

viewed your product.

G - Gift Vouchers

Gift vouchers can be a good way of influencing users to your site to buy a product/service. Not only can this be a good way of adding conversions, it can increase your customer loyalty as well.

H - High earners vs Low returners

Differentiating what products/services offer the highest return on investment is often one of the best ways of increasing your bottom line, and as a result your return on investment (ROI). This may sound like common sense, however many companies overlook this, and continue offering products or services that never make any positive ROI.

The same applies to search engine marketing as a whole. For example, If you have a pay-per-click campaign, and are using very generic terms, you may find by tweaking the terms, and making these more specific, you decrease the amount you are spending on your PPC campaign, and increase your ROI as a result.

I - Informative

Having a site that is informative, interesting and unique is one of the best ways of keeping visitors coming back to your site, whether they be human or robots. Visitor loyalty is invaluable. This can be achieved via a number of ways whether it be a niche product, well written technical articles, your companies own PR or even just something that is just unique, funny or controversial.

J - Just keep it simple

Over complicating the conversion process is often the biggest barrier to obtaining a successful sale. Many companies place barriers in the way, giving customers more reasons to pull out of a sale before completion, whether it is up-selling, over zealous data capture, or an inaccessible website.

A recent client’s buying process involved 10 clicks from site entry to sale completion. By reducing the number of clicks required to complete the sale from 10 to 6, sales increased by 400%. This involved streamlining the buying process, ensuring that the customer completed in as little time as possible.

In the modern era, time is money. Therefore time can be expensive so keep the time required to make a purchase to a minimum.

K - Keywords

Research thoroughly the keywords that your website can realistically be ranked for. If you have a new website in a highly competitive market then ranking naturally for the major terms will be close to impossible, so consider less competitive and more targeted terms.

Higher levels of visitors do not necessarily mean an increase in sales. A more focused set of keywords may mean lower traffic but the quality of the traffic can lead to a better ROI.

L - Landing Pages

This is another asset of search engine marketers that is either over-optimised for search engines or under-utilised for visitors. Both can have a detrimental effect on sales conversions and ultimately your ROI.

If you are using landing pages for any of your online advertising/marketing, it is highly advisable to keep these landing pages tailored to their requirement. You will find that by sending potential customers directly to the area/product they are looking for, you will significantly increase your sales as a result, and ultimately your ROI.

M - Mod Rewrite

A Mod Rewrite engine is a piece of web server software used to modify URLs, for the purpose of making your dynamic URLs more user friendly to customers and search engines.

A rewritten URL is easier to use if it is short but descriptive. The URL should have some text describing the content, but should not be too long.

Backend Profit Secrets And Viral Marketing

Posted by Writing Service in Writing Service on 12 8th, 2009

Once you truly understand the power of backend profits, you’ll explode your marketing results and create an unstoppable viral machine.

The techniques I will reveal to you have often been taught in many marketing courses and articles…but they are still underutilized because of two words - “tunnel vision.”

Backend profits means the additional income that you earn from a customer. The first purchase from a customer is the front end profits while the second purchase and so forth will be your backend.

The really good marketers understand that the most money will be made on the backend.

Here are a couple reasons why:

You can charge higher prices for backend products because you’ve already built a relationship with your customer.

They already know the quality of your product and of your customer service. You no longer have to convince them that you’re credible and that your information is good.

You only have to convince them that your backend product is higher quality than your front end product and that they NEED the backend product.

Trust is one of the single most important components of selling. You can earn that trust by providing a good front end product.

Most marketers do not truly understand the power of the backend and that’s a fact.

I know because I see very few affiliate programs which pay higher than 50% commission.

Think about this for a minute.

Let’s say you sell your product for $50 and you give 50% commission. You have 5 affiliates who each make 10 sales each.

You pocket $1,250 after paying commissions. You now have 50 customers. Five of them end up purchasing your $100 backend product for a profit of $500. Total profits is $1,750 for you.

Now let’s consider giving away 75% commission to your affiliates.

By giving away higher commissions, you get 10 affiliates instead of the 5. Ten affiliates making 10 sales each at $50 will make you $1,250 - which is the same front end profits as before.

Now you have 100 customers and make 10 backend sales for $1,000 profit.

So how did you end up making more when you increased your affiliate commissions by 25 percent? You made it on the backend.

Here’s what is happening behind the curtain as you increase your commissions.

You gain more affiliates and subscribers as those affiliates send you more traffic to your site.

Those affiliates are happier with their higher paycheck because you gave them higher commissions. Therefore, they will continue to send traffic to your site.

This cycle increases your traffic over time as you gain more customers, more affiliates and more subscribers.

It’s the ultimate viral marketing machine!

More subscribers equal more profits. More customers equals more profits. More affiliates equals more profits.

So is all that worth a hit on your front end profits?

Yes!

The problem most people have is they can’t stand to see their affiliates making more than them. Tunnel vision keeps them from seeing all the extra subscribers, customers and affiliates which could be theirs.

Please remember one thing about running your affiliate program.

A 75% reduction in profits is better than a 100% reduction, which is the case if the affiliate had not made ANY sale.

In summary, you should create an affiliate program for your front end product which gives away a majority of the profits.

You should also spend your time creating multiple backend products.

If the type of product you’re selling requires manual work and it’s not worth it for you to give higher commissions then an option for you is to create a different front-end product which will serve as a portal into your product line.

Your main goal in creating an ‘intro’ product is to use it to gain more traffic to your site. When you get the traffic, you should capture as many prospects as you can into your marketing funnel.

When you have more leads in your marketing funnel, you can control where they go by directing them within your follow-up emails.

How A Ghost With A Blue Ball Can Boost Online Marketing

Posted by Writing Service in Writing Service on 09 13th, 2009

What does online marketing have to do with a ghost? Plenty. Read this and you will see why. The memory still unsettles me whenever I think back to that night.

The experience taught me that to write about a product, you have to see it at work. You will see how this can help you, also. But first, here is what happened that night.

It was November - almost 3 years ago. My friend and client, Guido, asked me to write a sales letter and a couple of ads for him. He ran a ghost busting business.

It struck me as hard to make money chasing ghosts out of people’s houses but he made a good living. Guido convinced me that I had to get a feel for his business. So, he asked me to accompany him on a job.

I agreed and found myself the following Thursday night with him and his girlfriend, Erin, in the home of an art gallery owner. The owner and his family were away and the place smelled of stale smoke and chrysanthemums. We were alone &ndash or almost alone.

The ghost, Guido explained, was a child who had died in the house 60 years before. He would come back looking for toys. Guido led us to the dining room where he set up his equipment. The only toy I saw was a blue ball under the sideboard that belonged to the owner’s young son.

Guido half opened the door leading to the cellar and turned out the lights. We sat on the floor in the dark wearing night-vision goggles and waited.

It happened a little after 1 a.m. The blue ball hurtled from under the sideboard, hit the table leg and bounced back. I heard a click from Guido’s equipment and the ball stopped short. After a few minutes of stillness, the ball darted forth again. This time, it zigzagged along the wall.

Erin and I exchanged a quick glance and I strained to see what was causing the ball to move. I could only imagine some unseen little feet kicking it and scurrying after it. Again, Guido’s equipment clicked and kept on clicking. The ball rolled out the cellar door and bounced down the steps.

It was over.

Guido didn’t explain how he did it, but assured us the little ghost would not be back - ever. I ran my hand over the bare floor where the ball had been. I was feeling for wires or string, suspecting that Guido had rigged the whole thing. But I found nothing.

I didn’t go to bed when I got home. Instead, I wrote an account of the ghost. I also wrote the sales letter and ads for Guido. The words rolled off my fingertips like raindrops. I set the scene of what it was like to be in the same room with a ghost.

In writing about Guido’s service, I tried to make the readers feel the same things I had. I brought all my senses into it &ndash touch, smell, hearing, sight and taste.

I learned another lesson from that experience that may help you. The lesson is this: write the sales letter for your online marketing right after you see the product at work. That makes your words fresh and urgent.

Oh, and about the little ghost: Guido told me he didn’t stay in the cellar. He disappeared and Guido knows in his heart that some loving arms welcomed him back into that “in-between world” that ghosts call home.

What’s The Best Online Marketing Course? Find Out

Posted by Writing Service in Writing Service on 08 27th, 2009

No single course will give you all you need to make a full-time living online.

When was the last time you picked up a course, devoured it and went on to make tons of money without reading from any other source.

I’d reckon never because there is so much information to take in online that you can never just learn from one source.

I recently went on vacation and made more money while on vacation than most people make a whole month at their regular 9 to 5 jobs.

Should I write a course on how I do it? No

If I were to write a course it would just be a compilation of all the products which I’ve purchased.

If you want to make money online you need to figure out a few things about yourself before you invest any money in any course.

First and foremost is to figure out if you have the motivation to leave your job and work for yourself?

At your job, you are given orders. By working for yourself, you’ll need to be organized, disciplined and focused. Do you have those traits? If not, it might be easier just to continue working for others until you discipline yourself.

If you spend tons of money on courses and don’t have the discipline or focus to work, then no course will be valuable to you.

If you have the discipline and the focus, you can start earning money by using the free resources available online. Just take a look at the free article directories. There’s tons of useful information to help you get started.

There is no ‘one’ secret to making tons of money online. There are certain insiders tips and tactics to help you succeed with topics such as writing articles, submitting press releases, improving search engine placement etc, but none of those tactics will be useful to you unless you master the ability to be disciplined, focused and consistent.

Master those and I guarantee you’ll have more success.

If you don’t have those traits, you’ll just continue to purchase courses, software and programs to build a collection of digital waste.

To tell you the truth, when I started off, I wasn’t sure if I had what it takes to work for myself.

I overcame my limitations because I focused on the end result and not the process of working.

For me it was a do or die kind of mentality which made me have success in my business.

So stop searching for the perfect course. Someone else’s perfect course may not be what you like to do. Get specific in what you’re looking for and evaluate yourself to see if you’d actually take the necessary steps to follow through what the course teaches.

3 Reasons You Should Attend Seminars

Posted by Writing Service in Writing Service on 06 15th, 2009

If you have never gone to an online marketing seminar, you’re missing out.

I know what you’re thinking…

“Seminars are expensive.”

That’s true. They are. Some of ‘em cost over $5,000. Even the lower-priced parties are around $2,000.

“It’s a pain in the butt to attend.”

Again, that’s fair. In order to go, you have to get on a plane and fly somewhere. And you have to take time from your work and family to do it.

But, there are at least 3 reasons that attending seminars should be on your priority list (even if you DON’T plan to do a major product launch).

1. You Are Surrounded By Like-minded People.

Scoff if you want. But, I’m telling you, there’s huge POWER in being around folks who are driven to the same goal as you are.

To this day, my friends and family don’t really get what I do. They nod their heads and smile, but I can tell their eyes are glazing over.

Well, picture being at a party with a few hundred people who not only know what you do… they do it, too! You’ll be amazed at how inspiring that can be.

2. You Meet People Who Inspire And Drive You.

I know it sounds flighty. But, when you’re downing drinks with someone and sharing strategies back and forth about what’s working, your mind ignites.

You find yourself wishing you’d brought your laptop so you can start taking action that moment!

And here’s something better… you exchange phone numbers (yep, remember that thing you used to use before becoming a recluse?) and follow up with each other.

That’s accountability, baby and it can drive you to major success.

3. You Remove Yourself From The Daily Routine.

Ever wake up and have trouble getting your engine started? (I’m not talking about your car here.) And if you ever DO get the thing to turn over, you can’t seem to get any speed?

It happens to me all the time. I’ll wake up and the day will pass without my having done one truly productive thing! It stinks.

I’ll tell you why it happens to me…

I get bored of my routine! Now, don’t get me wrong. Routines are good. In fact, they’re CRITICAL to your success. Humans need routine.

But, it’s JUST as important to get OUT of your routine. And going to a seminar does that for you. It makes you leave your boring daily routine behind.

Going to a seminar can give your brain (and motivation) the jump-start it needs.

Last Thoughts

I’m not trying to sell you on a seminar here. I’m only trying to get you to think about going to one.

There are a lot of benefits to going. Benefits that aren’t always clear until you’re there, in the hallways, in the bars, at lunch… talking with folks who are doing EXACTLY what you are doing.

It’s empowering. It’s inspiring. And chances are, one you attend a seminar, you’ll be excited to go to another.

Mobile devices heating up SEM game

Posted by Writing Service in Writing Service on 06 9th, 2009

The creation of the Internet has changed the way we gather information and the way we do business. While previously requiring a wired connection to access the web, new wireless and satellite advancements have brought the Internet out of the office and into the hands of consumers. Top makers of cell phones and PDAs have now begun implementing Internet browsing capabilities into these “go-anywhere” wonders of technology. With this in mind, businesses may be changing their minds on the budgetary restrictions for their marketing expenditures.

Search Engine Marketers know that some of the most important pieces of real-estate today exist online. Having the top listings on Search Engine results pages means more impressions and click-throughs for your business. Bidding wars have existed for years regarding coveted spots on sponsored search results subsections of engines such as Google and Yahoo!. These eye-tantalizing locations could be in even higher demand with the expansion of mobile Internet technology.

When browsing, or more specifically searching, on a web-enabled mobile device, limited screen size and scrolling difficulties hinder the user from seeing the same number of search results as on a normal PC. This makes it virtually impossible for a business with a 7th ranked page, for example, from being seen by potential customers. For instance, using the XV6700 SmartPhone from Verizon Wireless, a mere five complete search results can be seen on Google. This includes the sponsored results, leaving only 3 or 4 natural results to be seen by the mobile user. While future viewing options will certainly be improving on such devices, there are limits to the size screen a person would be willing to slip into their pocket or handbag.

This reality can be quite disconcerting to those businesses that have spent thousands to have their site optimized for search engine listings. Certain keywords for each industry are in high demand and becoming one of the top three natural listings on a page of search results can be challenging. More and more companies today are offering marketing solutions resulting in higher search listing results and a more broad reach for a clients business information. With the popularity of web-capable mobile devices on the rise and the subsequent decrease in price that comes from a competitive market environment, these online marketing firms may be receiving more business in the near future.

Forgotten Marketing - Who Is The Customer?

Posted by Writing Service in Writing Service on 05 31st, 2009

I have witnessed a couple of discussions recently, amongst “internet marketers”, that made me recall the real world of offline marketing and how it relates to the world of the internet as it presently stands. Both discussions revolved around Google, which is not unusual; and both led me to believe that many online money seekers, who regard themselves as internet marketers, are a long way from understanding what marketing really is.

As is often the case, there were those who saw Google as a great ogre out to stop them making a living, and these people were the ones stimulating a discussion on Google Adsense.

Google Adsense &ndash Who Is The Customer here?

As far as online advertising goes, Google is a market leader, and deservedly so. Their pioneering approach has always been well ahead of the opposition, although others are trying hard to catch up. However, they have a dual role, as reflected by two products, Adsense and Adwords.

For the purpose of this discussion, I will concentrate on Adsense, as this was where many online “marketers” seem to get confused. For those who do not know about Adsense, this is a partnership product of Google, through which Google and web site owners come to an agreement for the web publisher to show Google ads on their web sites, and share on any income when somebody clicks on the ads. Adsense has given many web site owners the chance to bring in some extra income.

What I found so strange about one of the discussions I mentioned in the first paragraph, was that some people who own web sites see themselves as the customer, and Google as the supplier, when it comes to Adsense. Coming from the real world of magazine advertising, I have no problem understanding that it is the publisher who is the supplier, and the advertiser, or their agent, who is the customer.

Those who seek to attract advertising of any form to a magazine know that, as a publisher, they need first to look after their reading customers. To do that, they seek to provide good quality material for the magazine, and present it in an attractive way that will attract and retain readers. Only when they have done that can they expect to attract good advertising customers.

Ultimately, those who survive in online publishing in the long term, and who will depend on advertising revenue, will recognize that an advertiser is a customer, and needs to be treated like a customer, not a provider of a service. Google may not be a traditional media buyer, but they are the first of a new wave of media buyers who will yield a lot of power for the long term.

For now, though, it appears that many web site owners think Google owes them a living, and that they, the publisher, are the customer. Such people may well benefit from a journey into reality, to a bookstore or magazine stall where they can browse through magazines and see what publishing is about.

Why Should Web Site Owners Write Copy?

The second discussion was, in a way, related, as it reflected the way many internet marketers do not see themselves as web publishers, but people who have to use the latest tools to trick the search engines. That discussion related to duplicate content, and whether using such content will get publishers banned by Google. It rapidly moved on to public label rights articles, and the degree to which, if any, that they should be rewritten.

Some, like I, argued strongly for rewriting to make a web page competitive. There was no notable disagreement on that, but when one individual took the idea on board, the reaction was: “Ok, what tools do you use?”

This reflects a tendency, amongst those trying to make a living online, that the solution to any problem is a tool, a piece of software that does the work for you. That’s all very well for some things, but for writing an article? Would a genuine publisher want software to do an article rewrite? No, of course not.

In the long run, it is those businesses that understand their market place which will survive and prosper. Recognizing a customer is not a bad place to start; and understanding that they will expect good quality publishing is another.

Understanding Stop Words, And How To Avoid Them.

Posted by Writing Service in Writing Service on 03 6th, 2009

To understand how to avoid stop words, you first have to understand what stop words are. Search engines have words or phrases that are considered ‘stop words’. When a spider or crawler encounters one of these stop words, they will immediately leave your website and any information they gathered from it will not be saved in their database. This means that your website will not be indexed. If your website is already indexed in a searched engine, the crawler will come back to see if there are updates — and if it finds stop words when it does this, then your site could get banned from the search engine. You will not be allowed to remove the words and re-submit: it’s too late.

Different search engines have different lists, but some are nearly universal &ndash usually words that refer to sites with graphic sexual content, or other ‘adult’ material. We can’t really put a list here, or you’d never find this page! You should be able to tell what they are for the most part, but remember, pornographic web sites will often get indexed as well. The norm for search engines is that they will attempt to avoid content that is illegal. When they encounter adult oriented sites, they will generally only ban sites that contain especially vulgar or illegal materials. The problem being that many of these sorts of sites will use “gateway” pages that have no content other than “click here to enter.” These sites are less likely to be caught with the stop word censors.

These aren’t the only stop words, however. Some search engines create different lists of stop words for each different kind of website. What does this mean? Well, the algorithms which rank the pages determine how many times on a page a keyword is listed. Keep in mind that there are people trying to keyword stuff their pages to improve their ranking. If a word is not relevant to your site, don’t list it in your key words. This is one easy way to avoid losing your index privileges. There is no reason to try to lure people into your site on key words that don’t apply as they will not stick around long enough to provide you with revenue anyway.

Now you might be asking what keyword stuffing is. Keyword stuffing is when someone uses the same keywords over and over again in the meta tags and the content of the web page. If you’re searching the web and you come across a website that seems to be ranked far too highly, then keyword stuffing is usually to blame. The search engines work hard to stop people from using these kinds of tactics, and usually de-list sites that they find to be using them. That’s why some sites can be listed near the top for a while, before one day seemingly disappearing altogether.

Some sites, however, get ejected for repeated keywords, even though these sites aren’t trying to keyword stuff. This is where keyword analysis comes into play. To avoid repeating the same word or phrase too many times, you need to analyze your pages before you submit them &ndash you wouldn’t want your efforts at finding good keywords to go to waste.

Although search engine optimization is a long-term effort, the processes and rules change frequently, without any warning. There are, however, tools available that will help you to stay on top of what’s going on in SEO. Many tools can be tried out at no cost, letting you try before you buy. There are so many to choose from that you can’t just start downloading them &ndash you will want to read the information on each tool before you make a decision.

By using these tools before you submit your pages to any search engines, you will fully understand “stop words” and how to avoid them! You need to keep in mind, though, that different search engines have different stop word lists, so words that don’t matter to one search engine can stop your site from being listed on another.

There are also some words that aren’t included in searches, such as ‘and’, ‘of’, ‘the’, and other small words. You should keep these words out of your meta tags, as they’re just a waste of space.
